Resolution 2008-02

Whereas, the legislature of the state of Texas has deregulated utility services in various regions of the state; and

Whereas, shopping for electric providers can reduce utility bills by up to 20%; and

Whereas, The Texas Public Utilities Commission website is the primary source for comparison of electric providers; and

Whereas, this website is inaccessible to blind Texans; therefore,

Be it resolved that the National Federation of the Blind of Texas, in convention assembled this second day of November, 2008, demand that the Public Utilities Commission become compliant with the Internet Accessibility Act and make its website accessible so that the blind of Texas have equal access to competitively-priced utility services.

Be it further resolved that this organization take whatever steps necessary to ensure that the Public Utilities Commission website is made accessible to blind Texans.
