The Dallas Chapter is a cross-section of Federationists, some new to blindness and others blind since birth, dedicated to educating their community. This Chapter fosters a spirit of independence, encourages personal and professional growth to “Live the Life They Want” among their members and community. The chapter attends local events to distribute literature and provide information about blindness to its community. Members participate in White Cane Safety Day committee and activities, advocate for issues locally, state wide, and nationally, and hosts events to showcase the NFB-Newsline service. In addition, the members reach out to other organizations to learn about their services while sharing NFB information in order to strengthen the chapter’s community and reach people who are blind.
Our meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month from 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM where different topics are discussed each meeting to focus on the philosophical and practical aspects of blindness. A 50/50 raffle and incrementally increasing attendance incentive takes place each month, and chapter auctions complete with an auctioneer are held at meetings two times each year. Guest speakers, who present on issues affecting the blind are often featured.
